Two NGOs, the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) and Bharatiya Agro Industries Development Research Foundation (BAIF), along with the Surat District Cooperative Milk Marketing Union Ltd, are to provide livestock training to tribals in Gujarat. The aim is to help provide livelihood to the tribals, according to a news report.
Apurva Oza of AKRSP was quoted as saying, "Tribal families have always been associated with agriculture. But since they depend on rains, they work only for six months. They realise their money after a year only, which makes survival difficult."
Under the project, tribals can earn regular incomes by supplying milk to Sumul Dairy, run by the Surat District Cooperative Milk Marketing Union Ltd.
Oza added, "Under the project, 90 per cent of the amount will be from the Centre, while the state government will contribute the rest 10 per cent." read more...
